Wait and Listen

1 Kings 19:11-12 (The Message) Then he was told, "Go, stand on the mountain at attention before GOD. GOD will pass by." A hurricane wind ripped through the mountains and shattered the rocks before GOD, but GOD wasn't to be found in the wind; after the wind an earthquake, but GOD wasn't in the earthquake; and after the earthquake fire, but GOD wasn't in the fire; and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper.

Recently a well known actress converted to Hinduism. She had been to Christian churches and had not recognized God. Other actors look to other false religions to fill that void in their life which is meant for Jesus. After trying all other sources they may turn inward and call themselves god. But there is only one God and the only way to Him is through Jesus. He is found when we listen to the gentle and quiet whisper of Holy Spirit, calling us to repentance. Looking at the world will bring confusion but listening to God brings salvation. Do not let the trends of famous people question your faith, stand waiting on God, He will pass by.

Rest

Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message) "Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."

Today God wants you to know that He really loves you. His love is encompassing you, embracing you. He knows that you are tired and frustrated but now is not the time for surrender. Take time today to rest in His love, allow Him to restore and revitalize you. Remember as a child climbing up in daddy’s lap and rest your head upon his chest feeling his heart beat and feeling safe. God wants you to find that kind of rest in Him, spending time with Him, trusting Him, listening to Him and resting in Him. He loves you.

God's Reasons

Romans 8:27-28 (Amplified Bible) And He Who searches the hearts of men knows what is in the mind of the [Holy] Spirit [what His intent is], because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] in behalf of the saints according to and in harmony with God's will. We are assured and know that [God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.

We must all make decisions that can impact not only our lives but those we care about the most. Those decisions should not be based on money, they should be based on the eternal ramifications of our self and those around us. Is our decision going to further God’s kingdom? A few years ago, we had to set aside our family and the ministry to make money just to pay bills. We had two children (18 yrs. & 16 yrs. old), and aging parents, we had to leave home for a month or two at a time. The impact of that time has left our children with a sense of abandonment, although we talked everyday it was not the same as being there. But one of the children is still dealing with the impact of our decision to go work; God is still at work in this situation. If we would have had another option we would have took it. But God is able to take what satan meant for our harm turn it around and use it for our good and His glory. Had we chose to follow our own desires then God could not have protected us and turned this situation around. Make sure the choices you make are for God’s reasons and not your own.

Guidance for Your Decision

John 5:30-33 (The Message) "I can't do a solitary thing on my own: I listen, then I decide. You can trust my decision because I'm not out to get my own way but only to carry out orders. If I were simply speaking on my own account, it would be an empty, self-serving witness. But an independent witness confirms me, the most reliable Witness of all. Furthermore, you all saw and heard John, and he gave expert and reliable testimony about me, didn't he?

1 Corinthians 14:33 (New International Version) For God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As in all the congregations of the saints,

Have you ever made decisions that were wrong? Just like Jesus said in John, we cannot do a solitary thing own our own, we must heed God’s guidance. We can trust those decisions when they are led by Holy Spirit. Without guidance from the Lord then the decisions we make are self-serving and empty and do not testify of God’s goodness and grace. I face decisions everyday and I know many of you do as well. Do not rush into decisions, if you are confused by the choices then just wait until God gives you a clear choice. Read what God says in the Bible pertaining to similar situations, pray and ask God for His guidance and wait for it, then act on it. He will never give you bad advice, His will is for our good and His glory.

We Cannot Rush God

Hebrews 3:12-19 (The Message) So watch your step, friends. Make sure there's no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God. For as long as it's still God's Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn't slow down your reflexes. If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started out with, we're in this with Christ for the long haul. These words keep ringing in our ears: Today, please listen; don't turn a deaf ear as in the bitter uprising. For who were the people who turned a deaf ear? Weren't they the very ones Moses led out of Egypt? And who was God provoked with for forty years? Wasn't it those who turned a deaf ear and ended up corpses in the wilderness? And when he swore that they'd never get where they were going, wasn't he talking to the ones who turned a deaf ear? They never got there because they never listened, never believed.

While sitting at a stoplight, I notice a vehicle pull into the turn-only lane, yet they merely used that lane to get ahead of other traffic. They were in a hurry so they disobeyed laws. The only accomplishment they made was to be one car length ahead; this was hardly worth the effort and certainly not worth breaking the law. Had a police officer been near, their efforts would have been stopped and their pocketbook emptied. We do this in many facets of our Christian walk. We try to rush ahead of where God wants us to be. Many times our efforts to fulfill God’s plan are hindered by our disobedience and our disobedience hinders God’s plan. Our sins slow down our progress and often will result in our downfall. Quit rushing God, trust His timing.

Well Placed Faith

Acts 27:22 (Amplified Bible) But [even] now I beg you to be in good spirits and take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you but only of the ship.

When your faith is place in God He will watch over you. Storms will come your way but God has it in His hands and there is nothing that will be beyond His power. He will make sure that the storms you face will not be your end. There is nothing you will face that would be beyond God’s out stretched arms. One day as I was traveling in through stormy weather, the radio announced that a tornado had been sighted in the area where I was driving. I prayed for God’s protection in my journey. I looked to the sky and saw sun beams breaking through the clouds and touching the ground, they looked like fingers. Suddenly I felt this peace and was reminded that there is nothing that happens to me which is not Father filtered. What matters is where you place your trust, in man and things of this world or in the God who made it all.

Acts 20:32 (New Century Version) "Now I am putting you in the care of God and the message about his grace. It is able to give you strength, and it will give you the blessings God has for all his holy people.

Banished from Eden

Romans 3:22-24 (New International Version) This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

We prefer to blame Adam and Eve for man being banished from Eden. The truth is that if they would not have eaten the forbidden fruit then it would have been the next human and the next human. The truth is that if we would have been the first human we would have done the same thing. Eating that fruit was willfully disobeying, rebelling God’s word. We are not capable of always remaining in complete obedience to God’s commands. It is time to stop blaming Adam and Eve for our not living in Eden, it is time to realize that we are the reason that Jesus had to die, because of our disobedience and rebellion. Accept the fact that you are a sinner and only can receive forgiveness through Jesus. Heaven will be better than Eden do not miss out because of your own rebellion.
